Sanatan Dharm

“Sanatan” means original, universal, eternal and is mostly used as “Sanatan Dharm”, the ancient name for “Hinduism” as the original, universal, eternal truth, values, laws, religion. It also stands for the path that originates from the original, universal and eternal and brings the individual to the original, universal and eternal. There is a lot of historic evidence to suggest that this original truth lies at the basis of all spirituality and religions. While Hinduism may have preserved it in a truly admirable fashion, the original truth called Sanatan Dharm is clearly not limited to any particular religion, race or country.

Accordingly, Sanatan Society does not feel limited to any religion, race or country, even though it recognizes the teachings of Hinduism as the most true to the original teachings of Sanatan Dharm. All yogic sciences and paths are derived from it and are a worthy object of Sanatan Society studies and practice.

Harish Johari

Sanatan Society is an initiative of the students of Harish Johari, who left his body on the 20th of August 1999. The objective is to create and maintain an Internet platform that allows people to continue to study, apply and teach the Indian Vedic and Tantric traditions as he did.

All his wisdom, energy and love are imbedded in those traditions. We do not wish to concentrate on his glorification within this website, because he would not have accepted such delusion. Nevertheless, the Sanatan Society websites are dedicated to him and could not have existed without him. Not only because the idea originally was his, but also because he was a really great guy. In continuing his work we hope to fulfil the real debt to the teacher, which is to pass through the teaching. This site is only a part of that work.

Free online teaching, donations and commercial activities :

The Sanatan Society platform is based on a private extranet and on two public websites, www.sanatansociety.com and www.sanatansociety.org, which now count over 2800 web pages together. While we are trying to provide you with a lot of valuable free information (online teaching as a stepping-stone towards real teaching), wallpapers, recipes, online mantras, etc… (at www.sanatansociety.org) we are also trying to promote a limited number of high quality products (at www.sanatansociety.com).

We could offer you hundreds of books, tapes, posters, etc… from various authors, artists and teachers, but chose to limit ourselves to those products that we believe are of the highest value. Although we see the promotion of these products only as a secondary objective, we want to offer you the assurance that they have been extremely carefully selected. We also provide you with the highest possible detail on the quality of those products, so that you can make a conscious choice.

The main income sources for those that build the site are the direct sales of art and individualized art reproductions plus the affiliate percentages obtained by linking through to online stores with related books, music, posters, postcards, etc… The artists, authors and teachers benefit through the usual royalties and fees on the items sold or promoted through this site. By the way, none of the affiliate fees that we receive from online stores increase the prices of the items that you buy through them.

Nevertheless, the "commercial" activity is not yet able to cover its own expenses, let alone support the free online teaching efforts, so donations are very welcome.

The promotion of seminars and workshops through the sanatan website is without charge to the organizers, because such teaching is the most valuable and should be limited by financial burdens as little as possible. Free promotion does not mean that we will promote just any seminar.

The relationship between sanatansociety.com and the artists, authors and teachers that belong to the Sanatan Society is non-exclusive. Any other site that seeks to promote their work and learning is most welcome.
