This painting by Harish
Johari shows a scene of Ramayan that occured after Ravana
was defeated. Among the people of the kingdom of Ayodhya,
rumours spread that Sita could not have remained her purity
while being held captive for so long in the house of the
demon king Ravana. Thus a fire-test was held to prove the
purity of Sita. Sita stood inside the big fire without getting
burned. The fire-god Agni stood at her back testifying her
purity. Ram, Lakshman and Sugreeva (the monkey king) stood
on one side. Hanuman, Jamavant (the king of the bears),
Angad (son of Bali and crown-prince of the monkey kingdom)
as well as Vibhishana (the younger brother of Ravana) stood
on the other side.
